Planning Your Trip

Before You Book

Timing, duration and the best combinations for your dream journey.

When is the best time to visit Tanzania?
Tanzania can be visited year-round. The best timing depends on your plans — safari, beaches, Kilimanjaro, or a combination. The dry season (June–October) offers the best wildlife viewing, while December–February is ideal for Zanzibar beaches and the Serengeti calving season. March–May is the green season — fewer crowds, lower rates and lush landscapes.
How many days do I need for a safari and beach holiday?
We recommend a minimum of 7–10 days. A typical split is 4–5 days on safari (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire) followed by 4–5 days of beach relaxation on Zanzibar. This gives you time to acclimatise, enjoy game drives and truly unwind by the ocean.
Can I combine a safari with a beach holiday?
Absolutely. A safari followed by a Zanzibar beach stay is one of the most popular combinations. We handle all internal flights, transfers and accommodation seamlessly — so you simply arrive and enjoy.
Do you organise honeymoons and romantic getaways?
Yes — honeymoons are one of our specialties. We create romantic itineraries featuring private candlelit dinners on the beach, sunset dhow cruises, luxury tented camps, couples' spa treatments and secluded boutique resorts.
What is the best time to see the Great Migration?
The Great Migration is a year-round movement, but the classic river crossings in the northern Serengeti (Kogatende) typically occur from July to October. The calving season in the southern Serengeti (Ndutu) runs from January to March. We time your itinerary to the season and your preferred wildlife experience.
Travel & Logistics

Getting There & Around

Visas, flights, transfers and everything you need to arrive smoothly.

Do I need a visa to visit Tanzania?
Most visitors require a visa. Many nationalities can obtain an e-visa online before travel or a visa on arrival. We strongly recommend applying in advance via the official Tanzanian immigration portal. We're happy to guide you through the process.
Do you arrange accommodation and transfers?
Yes. We arrange accommodation, transfers, activities and guided experiences so your journey feels seamless. As one of Zanzibar's largest hotel wholesalers, we offer competitive rates across every category.
Which airports do you service?
We provide meet-and-greet and transfer services at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (Zanzibar), Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), Arusha Airport, Mombasa (Kenya) and Entebbe (Uganda).
What type of vehicles do you use?
We operate our own fleet of 180+ vehicles — from luxury Toyota Alphards and Land Cruisers to 45-seater buses. All vehicles are maintained in our in-house workshop and driven by professional, licensed drivers.
Are internal flights included in your packages?
Internal flights (for example, Zanzibar to Serengeti) can be included or quoted separately depending on your itinerary. We work with all major regional carriers to ensure the best routes and schedules for your trip.
Experiences

Safaris, Mountains & More

Adventures, activities and what to expect on the ground.

Do you organize Kilimanjaro climbs?
Yes. We plan Kilimanjaro climbs including route planning, guides, accommodation and logistics. Popular routes include Machame, Lemosho, Marangu and Rongai. All our mountain crews are licensed, experienced and equipped with modern safety gear.
What safari destinations do you cover?
In Tanzania we cover the Northern Circuit (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Lake Manyara) and the Southern Circuit (Ruaha, Nyerere, Mikumi). In Kenya we cover Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru and Tsavo. In Uganda we cover Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth NP and Murchison Falls.
Can I see the Big Five?
Yes — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino are all present in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro ecosystems. Rhino sightings are less common but achievable in the Ngorongoro Crater, where black rhinos are protected.
Do you organise gorilla trekking in Uganda?
Yes. We arrange gorilla trekking permits, transport, accommodation and guided experiences in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Permits are limited and often sell out months in advance — we recommend booking 6–12 months ahead.
What activities are available on Zanzibar?
Zanzibar offers spice farm tours, Stone Town heritage walks, dhow sunset cruises, snorkeling and diving (especially at Mnemba Atoll), Jozani Forest red colobus monkey tours, kite surfing, cooking classes, dolphin tours and more.
Is the safari suitable for children and families?
Absolutely. We design family-friendly safaris with shorter drives, interactive guides, kid-friendly lodges and flexible schedules. Zanzibar beaches are ideal for children, and we can arrange nannies or extra support on request.
Payments & Booking

Money, Policies & Peace of Mind

Transparent pricing and flexible policies — no surprises.

How do I book a trip with AfriLuxe?
Simply contact us via email, WhatsApp or our online form. We'll discuss your preferences, design a tailored itinerary, and send a detailed quote. Once approved, a deposit confirms your booking, and we handle the rest.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfers (USD, EUR, GBP, TZS), credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), and mobile money. For travel partners, we can offer credit terms subject to agreement.
How much deposit is required?
A 30% deposit is typically required to confirm your booking, with the balance due 30 days before arrival. For peak-season safaris, gorilla permits or luxury camps, we may require a higher deposit to secure limited inventory.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation policies vary by service and season. Standard terms are: 60+ days before travel — full refund minus admin fee; 30–59 days — 50% refund; under 30 days — non-refundable. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance for every trip.
Are your prices in USD?
Yes, most safari and DMC pricing is quoted in USD, which is widely accepted across East Africa. Beach stays and local activities may be quoted in EUR or TZS depending on the property. We'll always show you the exact currency in your quote.
Do you offer travel insurance?
We don't sell insurance directly, but we strongly recommend every guest purchases comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trip cancellation, baggage loss and emergency evacuation. We're happy to recommend trusted providers.
Health & Safety

Your Wellbeing Comes First

Vaccinations, safety and medical considerations for your journey.

What vaccinations do I need?
Yellow fever vaccination is required if arriving from certain countries (and recommended otherwise). We also advise routine vaccinations (MMR, DTP, hepatitis A/B, typhoid) and antimalarial medication. Always consult your doctor or a travel clinic at least 6 weeks before travel.
Is it safe to travel in Tanzania?
Tanzania is generally safe for tourists, especially on organised safaris and at resort destinations. We recommend using hotel safes, avoiding isolated areas at night, and following your guide's advice. Our team is on call 24/7 throughout your stay.
Do I need malaria pills?
Malaria is present in Tanzania and East Africa. We recommend antimalarial medication (consult your doctor) and prevention measures such as insect repellent and long sleeves at dusk. Zanzibar has a lower risk, but precautions are still advised.
What about altitude on Kilimanjaro?
Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of fitness. Our guides are trained in altitude safety and carry oxygen and pulse oximeters. We recommend longer routes (7–8 days) for better acclimatisation, and we follow strict safety protocols including daily health checks.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
We recommend drinking only bottled or purified water throughout your trip. All our partner lodges and camps provide safe drinking water. Reusable bottles are encouraged — we support plastic-free tourism.
Sustainability

Travel That Gives Back

How we protect the places and people that make your journey possible.

How does AfriLuxe support local communities?
We prioritise local hiring, source from local suppliers, and partner with community tourism projects across Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania. A portion of our profits supports education, conservation and healthcare initiatives.
What is your plastic-free policy?
We provide reusable water bottles and encourage refilling stations at partner properties. Our vehicles carry purified water dispensers, and we're progressively eliminating single-use plastics across our operations.
Do you support conservation projects?
Yes. We support marine conservation in the Pemba Channel, wildlife protection in the Serengeti ecosystem, and forest preservation in Zanzibar. We also contribute to the Zanzibar Sea Turtle Conservation Programme.
